On November 22nd, over 160 students, activists, community leaders and participants in the USMF’s 1000 Dreamers-1000 Leaders and Dreamers Without Borders Programs gathered at the Arturo Velasquez Institute of the Richard J. Daley College for the 1000 Dreamers-1000 Leaders Chicago Reception. The 1000 Dreamers-1000 Leaders Program is a binational mentorship and professional development program for college-aged Dreamers focused on helping them attain their full professional potential. The event provided an opportunity for participants in the program to connect with their peers and other attendees as well as a chance to present the program to the audience and invite them to join this growing network. The reception also featured a screening of the new USMF supported documentary “Beyond Borders,” as well as a panel discussion and speakers on the key issues impacting the Dreamer community, especially in light of the election. On October 24th, participants of the USMF’s “1000 Dreamers-1000 Leaders” and “Dreamers Without Borders” programs, UCLA students and members of the local community gathered at the UCLA campus for the Los Angeles 1000 Dreamers-1000 Leaders Networking Reception, organized in collaboration with Startup UCLA and the university’s Academic Advancement Program. Over 80 people were in attendance at the event which featured a screening of the new, USMF supported documentary “Beyond Borders,” a panel discussion of the issues highlighted by the film and a networking reception to conclude the evening. The U.S.-Mexico Foundation is proud to announce the successful completion of the first year of 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures, the first and, to this date, only STEM mentorship program for high school girls in Mexico. The program, implemented in Mexico by the USMF in collaboration with the Secretaria de Educacion Publica de Puebla, the New York Academy of Sciences and other allies and partners, featured personalized mentorship from female professionals in STEM, online trainings and a series of in person activities and workshops to help the 60 participating girls from low-income communities in the state of Puebla, Mexico, develop the self-confidence and skills they need to develop and achieve their professional goals. One year after the launch of this innovative program at an event in Puebla, Mexico, the USMF is proud to announce the successful completion of the first year of 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures and the life-changing impact it has had on the young women who participated in it. On Wednesday, June 8, a press conference was held in the Consulate General of Mexico in New York to announce the second delegation of the U.S.-Mexico Foundations’ (USMF) program called "Dreamers Without Borders". The program aims to reconnect Dreamers of Mexican origin living in the United States with their country of origin, with the purpose of contributing to their empowerment by promoting a sense of identity and renewed pride in their cultural heritage. The 2016 edition of Aulas Sin Frontera, a professional exchange between Teach For America and its Mexican counterpart, Enseña por México, was launched on April 21st at the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Mexico City. The event was presided by First Secretary for North America Lydia Antonio de la Garza, U.S.-Mexico Foundation CEO and President Rebeca Vargas, VP and General Director of Western Union Mexico Rodrigo García Estebarena, and Enseña por México CEO Erik Ramírez. On Thursday, March 24th, over 700 students, faculty and members of the general public gathered at the City College of New York’s (CCNY) Aaron Davis Hall to witness the U.S. premier of the documentary “Una Vida, Dos Países.” This new film, funded by the U.S.-Mexico Foundation (USMF), highlights the challenges and opportunities faced by US born or raised youths and children who have been forced to return to Mexico with their families in recent years. Fourteen Dreamers from the California State University-Long Beach’s (CSULB) California-Mexico Center visited Mexico between March 26th and April 5th, 2015, as part of a USMF sponsored program designed to reintroduce young Dreamers in the United States to their country of origin and to create bridges of understanding and cooperation between the two countries.
